What makes an outdoor LED display different
An outdoor LED display has to survive direct sunlight, rain, dust and heat — conditions an indoor screen never faces. That means three things an indoor panel does not need: very high brightness (up to 10,000 nits) so the image stays visible against sunlight, an IP65 weatherproof rating to keep out dust and rain, and a rugged steel structure to hold it safely against wind load.

Brightness (nits): the daylight test
Brightness is measured in nits (candela per square metre). Indoor screens run 600–1,500 nits; outdoor screens need far more to fight sunlight. Aim for 5,000–6,000 nits for shaded or north-facing locations and up to 10,000 nits for full sun-facing storefronts and highway hoardings.
Good outdoor panels also have auto-brightness — a light sensor dims the screen at night so it is not blinding and saves power. Too few nits is the most common outdoor mistake: the pixel pitch can be perfect, but if the screen is not bright enough it disappears at noon.
IP rating: weatherproofing explained
The IP (Ingress Protection) rating has two digits: the first is dust protection (0–6), the second is water protection (0–8). For outdoor LED you want IP65 — the "6" means fully dust-tight and the "5" means protected against water jets from any direction, which covers heavy Indian monsoon rain.
The front (face) of the panel usually carries the highest rating since it is most exposed; the rear should be at least IP54. Insist on IP65 front for any screen that will see direct weather, and make sure cable entries and the structure are sealed too.
Pixel pitch for outdoor by viewing distance
Outdoor viewers are usually far away, so you can use a coarser (larger) pixel pitch than indoors — which also lowers cost. Match pitch to how far the nearest viewer stands:
